ABOUT ME

My name is Sarah. I am a student at Salt Lake Community College with hopes of transferring to the University of Utah next fall. I am currently studying General Studies, but I have hope to study English at the U of U, focusing on literature, ESL, and secondary education.

I decided that teaching was my true passion after serving an AmeriCorps term at FRIENDS of Great Salt Lake as an Environmental Educator. I loved exploring with my students and watching them as they connected dots to create their own ideas and assumptions about the ecosystem of Great Salt Lake.

I am a woman of many hobbies, including camping, hiking, writing, reading, crocheting, skateboarding, and dirt biking. I love reading about politics and progress as well as fantasy fiction. Harry Potter is my favorite fantasy fiction book series of all time.

I am probably overly obsessed with things I find cute, such as my dog, my younger siblings, and my nieces and nephew. I like to be different than everyone else and keep a light mood. I consider myself to be witty and creative, though I may just be tooting my own horn.

I enjoy meeting new people and spending quality time with the people I already know and love. I am a fairly social person and I enjoy deep conversations and light-hearted foolery.

The things I like most about myself are the things that also trouble me. I’m deeply empathetic, which can sometimes cause me to put too much of my heart into things or cause me to over analyze and become cynical about first world problems.  I’m a humanitarian and I want to save the world. I know I can’t do that alone, so I decided to teach, because I believe that education is the key to understanding and progress.
